We do this by providing ONE, easy-to-use online sports management service for online registration and fee payment processing; coach and volunteer background checks; tournament (team) registration; sports team websites; complete sports team communication tools including broadcast email and team text messaging; online sports store; sports and database-driven member management systems for regional, state, or national organizations. Technically speaking, it’s called Software-as-a-Service (SaaS). It’s an approach that has helped thousands of sports organizations transform the way they do business and interact with their members. We just call it performing due diligence.
Back in 2002, Michelle Haller was the registrar for the 800-member Latham Circle Soccer Club in Latham, NY. She was processing the soccer registration forms – by hand, of course – and had stacks and stacks of papers covering the kitchen table. Her husband, John, walked in and thought, “This is going to be a serious crimp in my dinner plans.” Kidding.
Actually, John Haller took one look at those stacks of papers and all the work his wife was doing with sports management and thought, “There has to be a better way.” So John, the co-founder and chief technology officer of MapInfo Corp. (now Pitney Bowes MapInfo) in nearby Troy, NY, sat down and wrote out a computer program to simplify the sports registration process. He took it to Matt Scarchilli, the president of the Latham Circle Soccer Club. Matt was so impressed that he convinced some of his colleagues in other youth sports organizations to try the program.
Matt and John became partners and took this new system to market in August of 2003 under the name League Sports Services LLC, which still stands as the parent company for SportsSignup.
Then, in May of 2014, SportSignup became a true "all-in-one" Online Sports Management Solution with the acquisition of LeagueToolbox, a Canadian based sports software company. This monumental acquisition allowed us to expand our scope of services to include website content management with integrated team websites, automated scheduling, standings, player statistics, and iPhone and Android mobile apps.
Today, we have more than 3,000 customers in all of North America; have processed millons of sports registrations, and coach and volunteer background checks for sports organizations ranging in size from just a few teams to more than 10,000 participants; and have processed more than $300 million in secure credit card transactions.
And all because John did not have any room to put his dinner plate down!
